Next up is the world premiere of the new musical adaptation of the novel Beaches (better known for its 1988 film adaptation starring Bette Midler). Iris Rainer Dart, author of the original novel wrote the book for the new musical alongside playwright Thom Thomas (The Interview). The show features music by David Austin for which Dart also lent the lyrics and will also be under the leadership of director Eric Schaeffer, running from February 18-March 23.
The next two productions will be a play by Philip Ridley called Tender Napalm, running from March 18-May 11, and The Threepenny Opera, a musical by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, scheduled for April 22-June 1. Both of these productions are set to be directed by Matthew Gardiner. The final production of the season will be Cloak & Dagger, a world premiere musical comedy send-up of 1950s film noir written by Helen Hayes Award Winner Ed Dixon (Signature's Sunset Boulevard). Running from June 12-July 6, this will be the fourth production Schaeffer is scheduled to direct throughout Signature's 2013/14 season.
