New York City
Portland Center Stage presents David Sedaris’ The SantaLand Diaries along with Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory. Irreverent, saucy and original, Sedaris is a highly popular writer, comedian and commentator for National Public Radio. His hilarious piece recounts his adventures as one of Santa’s elves during the Christmas season at Macy’s in New York.
The sweet half of the evening is Capote’s classic reminiscence of his holiday rituals as a small boy growing up in rural Alabama. A Christmas Memory celebrates his relationship with his older cousin Sook, more of a beloved co-conspirator than a caretaker. In her simple manner, unconventional gift-giving and genuine joy, Sook embodies the true spirit of the holiday.
