About the Show

How can a musical about love and marriage survive over 40 years of performances and remain fresh? Is it the reality-based dialogue like “You silly, stupid, pompous, idiotic ass,” peppering the story line? Maybe so. More likely, it is the real-life trials and universal themes both characters reveal throughout the production and the melodic songs that we can relate to. Rain City Players’ presents the Tony-Award winning musical I Do! I Do! by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt at Seattle Public
Theater (SPT) at the Bathhouse Theatre on Green Lake.

The intimate two-person musical follows the marriage between Michael and
Agnes on their wedding day and travels through their life together over a
period of 50 years. They raise a family, negotiate mid-life crises,
quarrel, separate, reconcile, marry-off a daughter and grow old together. Songs include the lyrical title song, the caustic “My Daughter is Marrying An Idiot,” and “My Cup Runneth Over.” Bob De Dea directs, with musical direction by Bob Delf.
