City of Angels

About the Show

Capital Playhouse opens its 2005/2006 Season in a Box with perhaps the only “color coded” show any theatre audience is likely to see: City of Angels. This musical comedy interweaves two plots — one dealing with the writing of a screenplay in the legendary Hollywood of the ’40’s; the other, the enactment of that screenplay. The movie scenes appear in shades of black and white, and the real life scenes are in technicolor. It’s loaded with music, written in the contemporary jazz idiom, and filled with sidesplitting comedy. Winner of 6 Tony Awards, 9 Drama Desk Awards, and 3 Outer Critics Circle Awards.

The legendary Cy Coleman passed away this year, but his legacy lives on in this tour de force. Noted composer of such shows as Sweet Charity, Barnum, and Will Rogers Follies, Coleman teamed up with first time lyricist David Zippel to create this masterpiece that literally took Broadway by storm.
