Like many Washingtonians, Lieutenant Colonel Bridget Larew went to work as usual on the morning of September 11th. Unlike many Washingtonians who watched the tragedy unfold from the safety of their living rooms or offices, she works at the Pentagon as Chief of the Primary Care Clinic, and not only witnessed the events firsthand, but participated in them, helping lead the evacuation of her clinic moments after the crash, and treating wounded without flinching for the rest of that day. Washington Talks features the personal histories of such local residents as a World War II nurse who had been stationed in Europe, a budgetary consultant to President Harry Truman, one of the first black female Colonels, the first person to have successfully recommended a change in the US legislative process, an imprisoned anti-Vietnam war protestor, and the daughter of one of President Kennedy’s secret service agents who played with the Kennedy children in the White House. And these are only a hint of the scope of time and experience weaved together to create this seamless portrait of life in Washington.
