Tribes

Billy was born deaf into a raucous, politically incorrect hearing family that has never bothered to learn sign language. Billy has adapted brilliantly to the hearing world, but then meets Sylvia, a young woman from a deaf family and on the brink of deafness who introduces bim to a larger deaf community. Billy finds himself struggling with his self-identity, while becoming acquainted with a “tribe” to which he feels a sense of belonging. Tribes is the winner of the 2012 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play.
