About This Show

The Modell/Lyric is delighted to announce a new collaboration with the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University as part of the annual Peabody at the Modell/Lyric Series. Peabody, one of Baltimore’s treasures and one of the world’s most highly regarded music schools, will offer two performances of Igor Stravinsky’s romp through the mores of the 18th century – The Rake’s Progress.

Based on Williams Hogarth’s etchings, the opera tells the story of Tom Rakewell and his adventures and misadventures through the under-side of London. The production will be fully staged and costumed with the brightest vocal stars from Peabody directed by Garnett Bruce, under the baton of Maestro Hajime Teri Murai conducting the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. This will be a wonderful opportunity to support our emerging young artists as well as one of our sister cultural institutions.
