African Continuum Theatre Company and the University of Maryland Department of Theatre present The Piano Lesson, by August Wilson, directed by Jennifer L. Nelson. In the parlor of a row house in Pittsburgh, a piano keeps a silent vigil. No ordinary musical instrument, this piano is a member of the family–intricately carved with the faces of its brothers and sisters, it is a living, breathing reminder of a sad and storied past. The voices of many generations have been silenced under the lid of this stout upright–until an argument over selling the piano unearths the haunting melodies that accompanied their kin through some of the darkest times in American history.
