The Dog in the Manger

The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company presents Lope de Vega’s comedy The Dog in the Manger, straight from an enormously successful run at Britain’s Royal Shakespeare Company. CSC’s production is being directed by international theatre artist Isabelle Anderson of The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C.

Lope de Vega, who has been called the “Spanish Shakespeare,” wrote over 2,000 plays during the Spanish Golden Age. The Dog in the Manger is the painfully funny story of a countess who falls in love with her handsome and charming secretary, rejects him because he is not of her class, and then jealously refuses to allow him to marry elsewhere. The translation is a world premiere by Johns Hopkins University alumnus Bob Alleman.

Additional matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 12th and 19th.

Appropriate for ages 8 and up.
