About This Show

GALA concludes its “Homecoming” season with the DC premiere of Real Women Have Curves, the landmark Latino comedy by by Josefina López that inspired an award-winning film. Abel López directs.

A young Latina girl goes to work in her sister’s unregistered sewing factory, where her mother and three other hard-working women manufacture department store dresses in sizes far smaller than their own. Over three days they bicker and bond over issues of sex, family and self-respect, while always on the lookout for La Migra (immigration officials).
