New York City
Rorschach Theatre presents the Wathington premiere of Tony Kushner’s Only We Who Guard the Mystery Shall Be Unhappy as part of the Dario Fo Festival.
Tony Kushner’s controversial first act of his play in progress takes place in Heaven where Laura Bush and an Angel read Dosteyevsky to a group of Iraqi children recently killed by American bombs. The play has been performed around the country at anti war events and political benefits. Though deeply disturbing, the work displays Kushner’s signature wit and his tendency to place realistic characters in metaphysical settings to purge their demons.
The reading will be followed by a discussion about the theatre’s place in politics and the issues surrounding the upcoming election.
