About This Show

Mythic, Montana is one of Joe Goode’s biggest and most ambitious productions to date. In addition to the seven core company members, eight “Greek chorus” members join in an evocation of themes and characters from ancient Greek mythology. Set in the American West is a journey through ancient myths that leads to a vivid portrait of our contemporary society – a culture that believes in our increasing control over our fate, only to come up against natural, physical, or moral forces beyond the power of the individual.

Folk, a new work receiving its area premiere, is set in the wilds of rural America, and looks at small town stories to show the mythic scale of events that happen to seemingly inconsequential protagonists. This work confronts the stereotype that living in small town America is easy and the lives of small town folks are simple and quaint. Goode plays an artist refugee from Los Angeles and creates a canvas of characters that come straight out of central casting for an American small town: a wise-cracking waitress, a social outcast, a shy dishwasher.
