Arthur Laurents’ 1945 World War II drama Home of the Brave tells the story of Coen, an American soldier suffering from a hysterical reaction as the result of surviving a harrowing combat experience and the death of his comrade-in-arms. When an army psychiatrist attempts to cure Coen by having him relive his trauma, he discovers that the anti-Semitism Coen has endured throughout his life and in the Army may be a greater factor in his traumatic reaction than the horrors of battle.
