New York City
The critical acclaim keeps flowing in for internationally renowned dancer and choreographer Nejla Y. Yatkin. In addition to her work being hailed as “stunning” and “exotic” by The Washington Post and “dazzling” by New York’s Village Voice, Yatkin was named last season by Dance magazine as one of the “top 25 to watch” and as an outstanding emerging
artist by the Washington, D.C. Mayor’s Arts Award Committee.
This season, Yakin brings her magnificent artistry to BlackRock with De/Reconstructing Mata Hari, her latest multi-media solo work. Like the mysterious femme fatale for whom the piece is named, Yatkin’s performance evokes an alluring intrigue, leading audiences to rethink their perceptions, or misperceptions, of the infamous exotic dancer and courtesan turned World War I spy.
