So Hot Right Now is an innovative concert series created by Rosette. The series brings new and exciting music to Richmond audiences by highlighting the work of one living composer for an entire month. Rosette (and friends) will perform the same program multiple times in various settings throughout the Richmond area–private house concerts, BYOB house shows, libraries, parks, places of worship, venues, galleries, etc.–giving people an opportunity to hear the music more than once, and also giving them the flexibility to hear it in their preferred environment at a price they can afford (some performances are free/donation-based while others are ticketed).

Having lived in northern Alaska for almost 40 years of his adult life, John Luther Adams discovered a unique musical world grounded in space, stillness, and elemental forces.  In the 1970s and into the ’80s, he worked full time as an environmental activist.  But eventually, he felt compelled to dedicate himself entirely to music, believing that music can do more than politics to change the world.  Since that time, he has become one of the most widely admired composers in the world, receiving the Pulitzer Prize, a Grammy Award, and many other honors.

Rosette is a Richmond-based string quartet comprised of four women who love to make meaningful connections through music. From a bring-your-own-beer house show featuring Bartók’s Third String quartet, to a Woman Crush Wednesday program at an art gallery, to a collaboration with the Indian classical vocalist Saili Oak, Rosette has been creating unique concert experiences for Richmonders since 2015.

Their signature performance style features an informal approach to heartfelt music-making. During their concerts, each member of the quartet speaks about the music, offering a glimpse of their own unique personality, thought process, and experience within the group.

Rosette frequently collaborates with Miramar, the Richmond-based band specializing in Latin American boleros, performing string quartet arrangements written by Miramar’s pianist, Marlysse Simmons.

Rosette is Ellen Cockerham Riccio (violin), Treesa Gold (violin), Kimberly Ryan (viola), and Steph Barrett (cello). All four members are professional musicians, balancing various ratios of teaching to performing with the Richmond Symphony and other ensembles.
