Words Becomes Flesh

Marc Bamuthi Joseph is hailed by many as the Bay Area’s most passionate and engaging spoken word performer, in large part because of his ability to re-define the parameters of performance poetry by combining his language with movement – as seen recently on HBO’s Russell Simmon’s Def Poetry Jam. Influenced by multiple levels of Black dance including Tap, West African, Hip Hop and Jazz Dance, Word Becomes Flesh examines the exploitation and commercialization of the black male body from the cotton field to the athletic field to the digital plantation and all spaces in between.
