Christianne Mays stars in the title role of the “Homebody”, a middle-aged British matron whose first act monologue is a rumination on her alienation from her family and her glimpse of a strange, beautiful and ancient land which draws her into its spell after an encounter with a disfigured Afghani shopkeeper. The remaining two acts are the story of the “Homebody’s” husband and daughter as they travel to Afghanistan in an attempt to find their missing wife and mother. Set in 1998, just prior to and shortly after the American bombing of suspected terrorist training camps, the play itself is eerily prescient, being written well before the attacks on the World Trade Center in September 2001.
