The Devil’s Disciple
$10.00-$35.00
In a small New Hampshire town in 1777, devout Puritans complacently await the conclusion of the Revolutionary War, unaware of the danger that surrounds them. With British forces surrounding the town, an unlikely hero, Richard Dudgeon, a black sheep of his Puritan family and a self-proclaimed “Devil’s Disciple”, returns home to claim his inheritance. When British soldiers mistake Dudgeon for the minister of the town and threaten to hang him, Dudgeon contrives an astonishing plot to fool the British. This inversion of a traditional melodrama is the only play George Bernard Shaw set in the United States.
