About This Show

Opening Plano Repertory’s 2005 season is Peter Shaffer’s Tony award winning classic Amadeus. “Amadeus” means loved by God, and there lies the overriding theme of this wickedly funny play. Bitterly jealous of the brilliant but crass upstart, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, court composer Antonio Salieri wages a vengeful war against God and genius and vows to destroy his divinely favored rival. But the destiny of genius — and of mediocrity — cannot so easily be denied. Suffused throughout with Mozart’s music, this brilliant drama is an absorbing exploration of the mysteries and paradoxes of art, man’s relationship with God, and of life itself.

“Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus is a drama of the grandest design. A fascinating and incredible play to savor and enjoy.” – New York Post
