Thirty-four year old Fern Arbor is perfectly happy watching the world scoot past her front door – or so she says. In this 1985 Kentucky set comedy, our heroine must battle with her agoraphobia in order to overcome her fears and go in person to the Super Krogers to claim the brand new Microwave she won in a raffle. In addition to her own plight, Fern must deal with her sister Maple, who is in the middle of an identity crisis, her golf-loving neighbor Arnold who has just been abandoned with a newborn to care for, and her best friend Carla who has a whacky horror story for every occasion. Margaret Dulaney’s The View From Here is witty and intense in its presentation of fear, hope, and the human condition.
