About This Show

Show Dates: May 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27, June 2 & 3 @ 7:30pm

The Rocky Horror Show is a rock musical parody of the science fiction and horror B movies popular in the 1930s through early 1960s. The cult-classic tells the story of “all-American” sweethearts, Brad and Janet, caught with a flat on a stormy night causing them to seek help at the mansion of a mad, alien scientist from the planet Transvestite. All manner of innocence is eventually lost among the free-wheeling beings thriving on sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll within. Beyond its cult status, The Rocky Horror Show is widely credited as an influence on countercultural and sexual liberation movements that emerged in the 1960s, and was one of the first musicals of any kind to depict fluid sexuality. NBCT agrees by today’s standards some character depictions are arguably insensitive. Conversely, we also acknowledge that for decades (especially before the internet), many individuals found the show an escape into a judgement free zone where sexual identity could be explored. Regardless of its socio-political importance (or lack thereof), the show was and is intentionally crafted as theatrical camp, going out of its way to set up the premise it is a bold fantasy meant to rattle inhibitions within us all done in mad fun.

[R]: Not recommended for those under 18. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Trigger Warnings: Adult language, simulated sexual activity, non-traditional gender roles, graphic violence, partial nudity.*
“The original kitschy rock ‘n’ roll sci-fi gothic musical is more fun than ever! A musical that deals with mutating identity and time warps become one of the most mutated, time-warped phenomena in show business.”
—The New York Times
*Like the film adaptation, the live staged version of Rocky Horror is noted for a tradition of audience participation through calling out lines and attending dressed up in drag or as characters from the show. This participation is encouraged and welcomed. HOWEVER, the stage production differs from the film in that THROWING PROPS IS NOT ALLOWED. This is a serious safety issue for the live actors and for audience members. It is critical to comply with this policy. Patrons will be searched upon entry and must agree to comply with the NO PROPS POLICY or remove themselves from the theatre if asked by an NBCT representative without refund at any time throughout the performance. We want to have a great time with this show, so please study up on vocal participation cues and get ready to Time Warp!
