Sean O?Casey?s Juno & the Paycock was the inspiration for The Honeymooners, The Flintstones, even The Simpsons. It details the efforts of Juno Boyle, the matriarch of an inner city Dublin family in the 1920s trying to survive despite the character flaws of its egotistical patriarch, ?Captain? Jack Boyle. Son Johnny has lost an arm in a botched IRA endeavor, daughter Mary has thrown over her devoted boyfriend for an older, more charming suitor, Captain Jack is drinking the family into the poorhouse and, along with his flinty cohort, Joxer Daly, trying one get rich quick scheme after another ? anything to avoid a real job! Through all of this, the saintly Juno keeps her sanity, her wits, her self-respect, and holds her family together. Burning Coal artistic director Jerome Davis directs.
