About the Show
(Musical Comedy)
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a bawdy musical comedy by Broadway legend, Stephen Sondheim. The show inspired by ancient Roman farce takes place in front of three adjacent houses. First is the brothel of Lycus, a peddler of courtesans. Next is the house of Senex and Domina, and their aroused teenage son Hero. Last is the house of Erronius who continually bemoans the mysterious disappearance of his long-lost son and daughter. Hijinks, potions, disguises, secret schemes, and mistaken identities result in a screwball farce guaranteed to have audiences laughing in the isles. The premise sounds a bit odd but the genius of Sondheim lifts lowbrow to high art.
