Shrieks! Guffaws! Hysterical Havoc! Charles Ludlam’s The Mystery of Irma Vep is a lush and loving parody, theatrical magic, and great fun. Subtitled ” A Penny Dreadful,” it’s Rebecca meets The Mummy meets Wuthering Heights. The play is comic “camp” drenched in Grand Guignol with werewolf and vampire attacks from the English moors to ancient Egypt. Gene S. Minkow directs.
