The Gray Wig, Hofstra University’s alumni repertory theater group, performs Singin’ In The Rain, the musical of the MGM film. All net proceeds from Gray Wig shows benefit the Hofstra Scholarship Fund. “Singin’ In The Rain” marks the first show of The Gray Wig’s 30th anniversary season at the University.
The musical humorously satirizes and parodies the panic surrounding the troubling transitional period from silents to talkies in the dream factory of Hollywood of the late 1920s as the sound revolution swept through. The show features many unashamedly romantic songs, such as “Lucky Star “and “You Were Meant for Me” as well as the comic “Make ‘Em Laugh,” and the title song “Singin’ In The Rain,” which will be performed in a downpour of rain on the stage.
