About This Show

The Hofstra Gray Wig, Hofstra University’s alumni theater group, presents the classic musical Oliver. Based on the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, the musical features music, lyrics, and book by Lionel Bart. A poor workhouse orphan dares to ask for more gruel at dinner and is promptly sold for this indiscretion to a cruel undertaker. Oliver runs away and meets the pickpocket Fagin and his band of young thieves, including the Artful Dodger, who take Oliver in and tell him to consider himself one of the gang. On his first pickpocket outing, Oliver is caught stealing from a rich old man. The kind gentleman has Oliver arrested, but soon sees the good in the little boy as well as a strong family resemblance. This hit musical features many popular songs including “Consider Yourself” and “I’d Do Anything For You.”
All net proceeds from Gray Wig musicals benefit the Hofstra Scholarship Fund.
