The Westchester Jazz Orchestra (WJO), a fifteen-piece nonprofit jazz orchestra earning praise and recognition on the NY jazz scene, closes its third season with Here Comes the Sun: Beatles Jazz. WBGO-FM Music Director and Morning Show Host Gary Walker hosts the concert, which features timeless Beatles classics in new WJO-commissioned arrangements.
WJO is a nonprofit big band of fifteen professional musicians who are among the jazz greats of today. The Orchestra offers five concerts from September through June each year, playing a wide variety of jazz. WJO also conducts educational programs. Since its first concert in October 2003, WJO has attracted a devoted fan base. Concertgoers from all over the tri-state metropolitan area attend WJO’s shows. WBGO’s Gary Walker, a New Jersey resident, lauds the Orchestra: “WJO is a band of unparalleled musicianship. They are the art and passion of jazz at its finest.”
WJO, also praised by Manhattan Transfer vocalist Janis Siegel for its “virtuosic soloists, tight ensemble playing and innovative arranging,” includes trumpeters Craig Johnson, Tony Kadleck, Jim Rotondi, and Marvin Stamm; Artistic Director Joey Berkley; Jay Brandford, David Brandom, Ralph Lalama, and Ed Xiques on saxophone; Larry Farrell, George Flynn, and Keith O’Quinn on trombone; pianist Ted Rosenthal; bassist Harvie S and Tony Jefferson on drums.
