Vinicius Cantuária and Marc Ribot

A special and rare evening presented as part of the Joe’s Pub Brazilian Guitars Series in association with the New York Guitar Festival. Brazilian guitarist Vinicius Cantuária and New York guitarist Marc Ribot perform together in a rare duo format. Cantuária, who rose to fame as part of the Brazilian legend, Caetano Veloso’s backing band, will release his latest CD Horse and Fish (Bar/None Records) this spring. Having worked with everyone from Laurie Anderson to Bill Frisell, Cantuária is at the forefront of the burgeoning Neo-Brazilian music scene. Marc Ribot, a leading light of New York City’s downtown scene, initially made a name for himself through indelible road and studio work with Elvis Costello, Marianne Faithfull, and Tom Waits. With a guitar style defined by its edgy and electric tones, punky and loose attitude, Ribot formed Los Cubanos Postizos, is currently working on a new, sonically dense, rock band called the Marc Ribot Mystery Trio, and his music continues to evolve and amaze.
