Daniel Barenboim debuts as chief conductor and opens the La Scala 2007/2008 season with a new production of Tristan and Isolde. It will be directed by the controversial Patrice Chéreau, who is perhaps best known for his 1976 Ring at Bayreuth, which was greeted as a scandal and later became a rousing success.
