New York City
Pontine Movement Theater makes its New York debut with this colorful performance of Carlo Gozzi’s enchanting fable. The 18th-century playwright seems to be enjoying a comeback of late, as The Serpent Woman follows on the heels of another Gozzi tale — The Green Bird — recently seen on Broadway. Music, puppets, masks and spectacular costumes help to create a magical landscape inhabited by a fairy queen and her mortal prince. Their marriage leads to a provocative, half-humorous and half-horrifying journey from youth to maturity.
This performance is part of a unique “Evening in Venice,” a benefit for the National Arts Club. Also featured will be Venetian maskmakers, as well as American and European designers whose “wearable artwork” will be available at a live auction.
