New York City
As part of their New Works Reading Series, the Irish Repertory Theatre presents Ursula Rani Sarma’s The Exchange. The play examines what happens when it is no longer possible to tell what is real and what isn’t, asking the question, “What if the world is changing but you cannot?”
In a small post office in rural Ireland, Jack and his daughters struggle to remember what holds them together while trying to forget what drove them apart. It’s the anniversary of his wife’s death, and Jack remains tormented by things he would rather forget – dark deeds, old friends and one terrible night. Even worse, Ireland has changed: there’s no longer room for men like him. The unexpected return of his prodigal daughter, Roisin, causes chaos and enrages Anna, the “good” daughter who has remained at home. As this dysfunctional family tries to wade through the secrets and lies of the past with the hope of a brighter future, a storm continues to approach.
Additional readings in the New Works series are scheduled for Fridays, November 17, December 15, January 26th, February 23rd, and March 30th. All readings are at 3:00 PM and are located at The Irish Repertory Theatre.
