About This Show

The Du-Tels, who have been described as “a national treasure/a natural disaster”, is the psychedelic acoustic folk duo comprising 2 legendary cult heroes: guitarist extraordinaire Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart, Gods and Monsters) on guitar and vocals, and madcap roots radical Peter Stampfel (Holy Modal Rounders, Bottlecaps) on mandolin, fiddle, and vocals. The pair have been merrymaking and hellraising since 1994, and their album No Knowledge of Music Required (Shimmy Disc/Knitting Factory) received 4 stars in Rolling Stone and was praised lavishly by Ann Powers and Ben Sisario in the New York Times. A typical Du-Tels concert covers the entire corpus of Western music and then some: droll originals, traditional bluegrass, country and Old Timey music, generous dollops of that “old weird” Americana (and did we forget the Teletubbies theme?) are riotously rendered by these renegade roustabouts and short-order chefs of amusement. Come drain the dregs of the old year and drink the sweet wine of the new with this special concert by the inimitable Du-Tels.
