About This Show

Studio 42 hosts The 2004 Starving Artists Ball, a celebration of New York City’s emerging downtown artists. This year’s Ball
features a keynote address from Honorary Artistic Chair and three-time
Emmy®-nominee, Michael Imperioli. The co-chairs of the event are 2004
Tony Award®-winners Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, of the Broadway musical Avenue Q.

Now in its third year, the Starving Artists Ball draws hundreds of
artists, funders, and arts-supporters together to celebrate the work of
emerging talent and to raise funds for the Starving Artist Award, a cash
grant of up to $7500 for an up-and-coming, New York City-based artist or
arts organization.

This year, Special Guest Presenter, Gail Merrifield Papp, will present
the Jonathan Adler-designed Starving Artist Award to Julia Frodahl of
Edison Woods.

The evening consists of a VIP cocktail reception from 7:00-8:00pm,
followed by the Starving Artists Ball from 8:00pm to midnight, which
will feature a keynote address by Michael Imperioli; the presentation of
the Starving Artist Award, a buffet dinner, two floors of open bars,
passed hors d’ouevres, music, dancing, and an art exhibition of 20-30
emerging artists. In addition, Edison Woods, this year’s recipient of
the Starving Artist Award, will give a special performance. Attire is
downtown formal.

The 2004 Starving Artist Ball Invitation Committee includes legendary
drag artist Lypsinka!, playwright Wendy MacLeod (The House of Yes), and
film-maker/philanthropist Alexandra Shiva.
