During the past two decades, Ted Danson, who is best known as the bartender Sam Malone in the long-running television series Cheers, has devoted himself to heading off a looming global catastrophe–the massive destruction of our oceanic biosystems and the collapse of the world’s major fisheries. In his new book Oceana: Our Endangered Oceans and What We Can Do to Save Them, learn about what has happened to our oceans in just the past half-century and the solutions that may allow us to avert this crisis.

Dr. Sylvia Earle is explorer in residence at the National Geographic Society and recently led the Google Ocean Advisory Council, a team of 30 marine scientists providing content and scientific oversight for “Ocean” in Google Earth.
