Stewart Goodyear, piano, plays Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations and more

A performance of the Diabelli Variations is always a pianistic event — even more so in the hands of one of the leading interpreters of Beethoven today. Canadian pianist Stewart Goodyear, celebrated for his deep understanding of the composer and the artistic stamina of his Beethoven Sonata-thons, returns to our stage to perform a summit of Beethoven’s genius, bringing his arsenal of artistry to a work filled with virtuosity, beauty and wit. The expansive program also includes Bach’s elegant and beloved French Suite in G Major, an exquisite expressive jewel by Joseph Bologne, and a delightful opening in Goodyear’s own composition, Acabris! Acabras! Acabram! modeled on a French-Canadian folktale in its New York premiere.
