About This Show

Whether riveting dramas, spirited comedies or dazzling explorations of motion, the works chosen for the Paul Taylor Dance Company 2008 season all display the choreographer’s deeply-felt, thought-provoking responses to the world around us, while showcasing the breathtaking athleticism of some of today’s most talented dancers.

Mr. Taylor presents his two newest dances inspired by various aspects of Mexican culture and folklore: the surreal dreamscapes De Sueños (of dreams) and De Sueños que se Repiten (of recurring dreams), both made in 2007. Both pieces conjure up colorful dreamscapes inspired by Mexican traditions such as the festive Day of the Dead, the Deer Dance, and the Hat Dance. Both pieces are set to music from the Kronos Quartet’s recording, Nuevo, featuring contemporary Mexican composers, with some of the music mixed with field recordings of boisterous city life.
