About This Show

ACTIVE EYE, a performance company drawing from East Asian and Western performance traditions to create multi-disciplinary works fusing music, text and movement, presents a new adaptation of Büchner’s Woyzeck. This intense, highly physical production features live, original music by Rika Iino and a new translation by Lucas Hnath. Woyzeck’s struggles to stay afloat amid a frightening world of odd figures and strange devices give way to a disintegration of everything he knows and recognizes. ACTIVE EYE interweaves a soundscape combining bio-electric waves (sounds drawn from the body) and acoustic and digitally altered piano, tightly choreographed movement and sparse, off-beat language to create a vibrant resonating chamber for the inside of Woyzeck’s mind. Jyana S. Gregory directs.
