About This Show

New Perspectives Theatre Company presents the American premiere of Visit by internationally acclaimed Argentinean playwright Ricardo Monti in a first-ever English translation by Jean Graham-Jones. NPT Artistic Director Melody Brooks serves as Executive Producer, Milton Loayza directs.

The play follows the fate of Ex, who has intruded into an elderly couple’s household and their adoptive dwarf (Gasper), an adult who allows himself to be treated as a child in expectation of the ultimate reward. Traveling a thin line between fascination and repulsion for his reticent hosts, Ex must find out the meaning of this encounter before he is trapped in a place where time has seemingly stopped. Has the old woman (Pearl) been waiting for him all along as a prodigal son? Is the old man’s (Lolly) sinister power and seductiveness teaching Ex about his own future? Is Ex only seeing a reflection of his past or will he be able to ensure a future in the household? Written at the height of the Argentine “Dirty War”, a 20-year military dictatorship, Visit uses a mix of the grotesque, existential anxiety, and a treacherous sense of make believe, to challenge our assumptions about the status quo and the real motives of those who wield power.

There is no performance on Thanksgiving (November 25).
