About This Show

NativeAliens Theatre Collective presents Tennessee Williams’ Vieux Carré. Believed to be inspired by the playwright’s own experience as a young writer in a new city, the play takes place in the bohemian world of the 1930’s New Orleans French Quarter. It focuses on an unnamed writer who moves into an old boarding house in the section of the city known as the Vieux Carré. It is here that he encounters Mrs. Wire, the house’s eccentric landlady, the young and desperate Jane, Tye, her drug-addicted, strip-show barker boyfriend and a dying painter named Nightingale.

Vieux Carré is the emotional and economic struggle of these characters, whose lives are all intertwined under the roof of a seedy rooming house as they uncover their desperate search for love and relationships. Perhaps more than any other play in the Williams canon, it demonstrates the profound influence on the decadent and desperate world of New Orleans on the playwright’s life and work. Jeff Seabaugh directs.
