About This Show

Makor presents Uptown/Downtown: The Second Annual Makor Marathon, a daylong multimedia, multidisciplinary festival of visual and performing arts on Sunday, January 11 from noon to 6:00 p.m. A host of some of downtown’s best visual and performing artists join members of the Makor Artists Network to present a variety of work in Makor’s multi-purpose building, which offers space for poetry, music, theater, comics exhibits, film, performance, art installations and gallery shows.

The Marathon brings different artistic communities together and introduces each group to new audiences. The Marathon is also the culmination of the fall cycle of the Makor Artists Network program – a six-month workshop that fuses art school with Jewish studies. Participants present work inspired by and created during the program – work that often challenges traditional notions of what makes art Jewish, and explores how Jewish tradition and Jewish themes can inform a huge variety of creative endeavors.
