About This Show

The Winter’s Tale is Shakespeare’s examination of trust, betrayal, and grief seen through the lives of two kings and their families. The play begins as Leontes, King of Scillia, begins to suspect his wife Hermione and his best friend King Polixines of adultery. The resulting ripples of this suspicion entangle these kingdoms in a web of guilt, love, reconciliation, and ultimately redemption.

Performances the weekends of July 4, 11, and 25 take place at Cedar Hill in Central Park. The weekend of July 18 performances take place at various other outdoor locations.
