About This Show

Estonia’s Von Krahl Theatre has teamed up with Russian choreographer Sasha Pepelyaev to create a Swan Lake unlike any other you’ve seen. For more than 100 years, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake has been the definition of beauty for the Russian people. It was also used as an ideological tool, culminating in its non-stop broadcast of all Russian TV channels during the August 1991 putsch. This version reveals Swan Lake’s sociological and historical connotations through the use of the 1950’s documentary films, absurdist theater devices, and highly technical contemporary dance.
