About the Show

According to Prince there is the possibility for “23 positions in a one night stand.” But how much confusion can be experienced when one is pursuing a true love? Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s The Rivals is a comedy of bad “manners” that finds would be lovers complicating their own lives and relationships to bring to reality their deepest romantic and sexual fantasies. Captain Absolute gets off on role playing, Lydia Languish likes to dominate, Julia Melville gets hot playing mind games and Faulkland likes to watch. As each pursues the realization of their fantasy they get more ensnared in the web of their desires, entrapping others and resulting in an orgy of misdirection, confusion and drawn swords. The Rivals has been around for well over 200 years, but it is evidence that even though the settings may change our desires have always been the same. The Rivals is part of Ampersand Theatre Company’s Classics & Cocktails Series.
Opening night ticket is $23 that includes a $5 donation to Ampersand Theatre Company and a post-show champagne toast with the company.
