About This Show

Don’t miss the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players’ all-new production of The Mikado. The history and inspiration behind the writing of The Mikado is center stage as the real-life characters of Victorian London’s D’Oyly Carte Opera Company enter the imaginary setting of Titipu, influenced by the art and architecture of Japan that reached England in the late 19th century. At the outset, you’ll meet Messrs. Gilbert, Sullivan, and D’Oyly Carte themselves. After making their acquaintance, you’ll accompany them on a voyage to a land where the timeless libretto, beautiful music, and endearing characters of The Mikado await! Among those characters are three little maids from school, a wandering minstrel, a corrupt public official, and a Lord High Executioner who may have a list of victims but is too tenderhearted to perform his function. At the heart of this operetta is a love story: beautiful schoolgirl loves wandering minstrel but is (alas!) engaged to executioner.
