About This Show

Ryan Repertory Company presents The Lisbon Traviata by Terrance McNally. John Sannuto directs.

When do you salvage a relationship gone sour? Is love enough? Sometimes it’s better to say “goodbye.” In this brilliantly crafted comic-tragedy Terrance McNally explores the journey of two men, Stephen and Michael, in an eight year, open relationship. Stephen is lost in his sanctuary of opera and Maria Callas fanaticism. Michael, feeling alone and isolated, needs more. In this web of love, grand opera is the metaphor for our life-and-deaths passions; “…we all love, were all going to die.” And in between we have to negotiate that.
