About This Show

Take Wing and Soar Productions, in artistic collaboration with OdD Socks Productions, presents the New York debut of The Darker Face of The Earth, Rita Dove’s re-imagining of Oedipus: the King in verse.

The Darker Face of The Earth resurrects centuries of forgotten spirits and their curses. A family’s separation leads to betrayal, conspiracy, insurrection, seduction, patricide and incest in America’s pre war south. The injustice of slavery is explored as you attend midnight cabals and magic rites. Bear witness as the spirits of enslaved Africans, free men and plantation owners rise under the direction of Trezana Beverley. Using DanzActing to combine dance with chant, drum and song to create a moving theatrical experience not to be missed.
