Five time Emmy Award winner William Electric Black teams up with attorney Denis Woychuk to adapt the latter’s book, The Damned into a hang-on-to-your-seats rock musical that reveals the twisted and tormented lives of the criminally insane. Directed by Black, and co-written by Woychuk and Black, with lyrics by Black, and music by Thomas Simon, the musical is the dark story of those acquited by insanity of some usually horrendous crime, those too psychotic too stand trial for their criminal acts, and those who just fell through the cracks of the system.
It’s central character, Dennis Willow is a lawyer whose past has come back to bite him. He can’t rid himself of the memories of cases that he should have lost but won, miscarriages of justice, his own sense of guilt, and the haunting voices of his past. Psychiatrist Dr. Bellows tries to revive their lost love affair against the clamor of what appears to be the lawyer’s incipient psychosis.
