About This Show

THEATREWORKS/USA, America’s foremost not-for-profit professional theatre for family audiences, presents the world premiere of The Civil War: The South Carolina Black Regiment for two performances only. The musical is written by Tanya Barfield and directed by Jesse Berger. Music and lyrics are by Eric Schorr with musical staging by Willie Rosario and choreography by Tracy Bersley.

This new musical is inspired by events surrounding the formation of the South Carolina Black regiment of the Civil War. It is being staged by Theaterworks/USA to help young people fully appreciate the dramatic story of how black Americans gained the right to fight for their own freedom and that their entire country, during the nation’s Civil War. (ages 8 and up)
