About This Show

The Vortex Theater Company presents an adventurous and haunting theatrical experience from acclaimed Icelandic director Kristjan Thorgeirsson. Maurice Maeterlinck’s rarely performed classic, The Blind, is part of the Classic Stage Company’s On The Verge series.

Written in 1890 by Belgian playwright, poet and essayist Maurice Maeterlinck, this starkly beautiful one-act play explores the plight of a group of blind people, confined to a desolate island and waiting to be saved by a priest whom they fear will never come. Described by the NY Sun as “profound…strange and gorgeous” and “absolutely unforgettable”, Icelandic director Kristjan Thorgiersson delivers a delicately staged and haunting investigation into man’s abandonment by God. As part of it’s inaugural season under the new artistic direction of Joshua Randall, The Vortex Theater Company presents this rarely performed and provocative play by one of theater’s least known but most influential innovators.
