About This Show

The Bat Reading Series includes the following plays:

Like I Say – April 22, 2003 at 7pm.
Written & Directed by Len Jenkin – A run-down hotel on a seaside hosts a bevy of eccentric characters with mysterious pasts, including a poet, an artist and two traveling puppeteers.

Kate Crackernuts – May 3, 2003
Written by Sheila Callaghan, directed by Hayley Finn – A psychedelic fairy tale. There are two stories going on – Paul, a young man, has lost his mother and is withering away thanks to depression and drugs and a seductress named Miss Prima. Kate is a young woman whose sister, Anne, has lost her head (literally) and she is helping her find it. A Headless Sheep waxes poetic about getting his head back.

Brave Brood – May 4, 2003 at 7pm
Written & Directed by Robert O’Hara – Miss Anne, a misguided psychologist, takes in various homeless hustlers into her home, including a mentally challenged 28 year-old and a young pregnant crack head. She allows them to continue to “work” while under her care. After she is arrested, Miss Anne and her wards defend her choices.

Los Angeles – May 22, 2003 at 7pm
Written by Julian Sheppard – Audrey goes to Los Angeles in hopes of being an actress and gets caught up in the fast life of drugs and sex. Along the way, she encounters a slew of men who use her and whom she uses for drugs. She sinks deeper and deeper with each scene.

Gods Over Broadway – May 27, 2003 at 7pm
Written By Louis Dottini – 1940’s noir-ish piece about a young woman with Broadway dreams which are shattered quickly when she realizes she will have to sleep her way to a part.
